We need to do more research to determine which of the F. Broughs our man is. For the time being, the CWGC and SDGW details in the table above relate to the F. Brough identified by source 6. We remain open minded about which man he is.

Another F. Brough appears on the CWGC database, but he came from Sunderland. He died on 29th July, which sits better with the Uttoxeter Advertiser’s article in May (see below).

Before he enlisted, Frederick was a member of the Uttoxeter Advertiser printing staff1a. He was the third of the printing staff to join the colours1a.

Frederick was a National reservist at the outbreak of war and was recalled in January 19151a. He was one of several National Reservists who went to Burton to rejoin, but was the only one to pass the medical1a.

In May 1917 the Uttoxeter Advertiser1c reported that he had been sent home from France suffering from illness and was now in hospital in Manchester. In July it was reported that he was home on sick leave suffering from dysentery1b. This does not sit well with the date of death given by source 6.
