He was a nephew of Mr. C.A. Davies2, 6a, 6b, of The Knoll, Uttoxeter2. He was born in Uttoxeter, but his family immigrated to Canada in about 1907 when he was ten years old2, 6a, 6b. His family took up farming in Canada when they emigrated6a.

His CWGC record lists his nationality as Canadian3, but says that he was a native of Uttoxeter3.

He was serving in one of the Canadian regiments2 and spent his last leave at Uttoxeter before going to the front6a, 6b. In November 1916 he visited his uncle in Uttoxeter6a. This means that he only saw a few weeks' service before being killed6b.

The Uttoxeter Advertiser Roll of Honour says that he died in ‘France’, which could mean Belgium or France.
