Thomas was born in Uttoxeter, but lived in Marchington.
We know little about Thomas’s service, but we do know that in September 1914 he was serving with the British Expeditionary Force[2]. He is likely to have been one of the ‘Old Contenptibles’ because by the time the Uttoxeter Advertiser went to print on the 3rd of September 1914[3a] he was listed serving as ‘Private’ T. Harper. Perhaps he was a Regular Soldier, Reservist or member of the Territorials?
He is commemorated on the War Memorial on St. Peter’s Church, Marchington | |
