We do not know when Fred enlisted, but we know that he did it in Matlock, Derbyshire.

On the 5th of December 1917 the Uttoxeter Advertiser reported the fact that Mrs. Herridge had received official notification that her husband was dangerously ill with dysentery in hospital in Salonica1a, 4.

He left a wife and child1b, 1c.
