Eric was the third and youngest son. William Holdcroft was his brother and also fell.
He was educated at Uttoxeter’s Thomas Alleyne’s Grammar School and attested into the Army as soon as he reached the age of 18. Very soon afterwards, on the 25th November 1916, he was transferred to a Cadet School. He was killed in action less than a year later.
He is buried in Grave: LVIII. F 34.in Tyne Cot Cemetery. This is in the Passchendaele area of the Ypres salient.
