Before the war, Robert was employed at the Fault Plaster Pits[1a].

It was not until the end of April 1917 that his wife received notification that he had been killed on 30th March 1917 in Mesopotamia[1a]. At the time she was living with her parents in Blacksmith's Yard, Uttoxeter[1a].

The Uttoxeter Advertiser’s roll of honour says that he died in Mail Plain, Mesopotamia
