THE MARTIN FAMILY

Thomas and Lizzie Martin, of 38, Derby Rd., Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, lost two sons during the war –. Bertram was killed first, followed by Percy.

 

According to Bertram’s Obituary in the Uttoxeter Advertiser, Thomas and Lizzie also had two other sons, both of whom served in the army and survived the war. They had both been discharged by the time Bertram was killed.

·         Thomas served for 15 months

·         John served for 12 months

In addition, Thomas (their father) had a brother George, who had a son Nelson. Nelson was therefore Bertram and Percy’s cousin. Nelson was also killed during the war, and the Martin family thereforelost two brothers and a cousin.
