Frederick had five sisters – Bessie, Margaret, Agnes, Florence and Annie6d. He was the only son5, 6b, 6d, 6e, 6g.
Before the war he was employed by the Farmers' and Cleveland Dairies Company in Uttoxeter5, where his father worked until a few months before Frederick was killed6b.
He joined up on7th6b June 19155, 6a with the Royal Scots Regiment5 and he did all of his training in Scotland6b. He went to France in the autumn of 1915 6a and went in the trenches on 8th October5, 6b.
He was a year underage for overseas service when he died at Loos.
