William was in the Army Service Corps and had been at the front for over 12 months when he was killed. [1a]

The Uttoxeter Advertiser’s Roll of honour says that he died in France.

 

This notice was posted in the Uttoxeter Advertiser on 17th April 1918 [1b] shortly after his family had heard about his death

 

 

This was posted in the Uttoxeter Advertiser in March 1919 to mark the first anniversary of his death. His wife’s grief is painfully apparent
