William’s Medal Card5 tells a very unpleasant tale of William being unjustly accused of cowardice. It shows that on 5th January 1918 he was labelled as a deserter and his medals were forfeited. This was corrected at a later date and the forfeiture was cancelled when he was officially classed as ‘Presumed Dead’. He was then awarded his medals again.
He is now commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
